The Frontier Series

Frank Hyder’s The Frontier Series is a captivating collection of artworks that explore themes of migration, boundaries, and cultural exchange through large-scale sculptures and immersive installations. The series often features his signature inflatable sculptures known as “The Janis Project,” which are large, vividly colored heads that symbolize the diversity and complexity of the human experience.

Drawing inspiration from his extensive travels and engagement with indigenous cultures around the globe, Hyder’s works blend elements of modern pop art aesthetics with traditional motifs and patterns. These pieces challenge viewers to reflect on the notion of borders—physical, emotional, and cultural—while celebrating the richness of cross-cultural encounters.

Through The Frontier Series, Hyder explores the fluidity of identity and invites viewers to contemplate their own experiences of crossing frontiers, be they literal borders or metaphorical thresholds. His use of vibrant colors, larger-than-life forms, and a whimsical yet thought-provoking presentation offers a dynamic and optimistic perspective on the shared human journey.
