In June 2019, internationally renowned artist Frank Hyder showcased his “Janis Project” at Peddler’s Village as part of the “Art in the Village” event. This exhibition featured eight large-scale, inflatable sculptures—vibrantly colored heads standing ten feet tall—strategically placed throughout the village.

Inspired by Hyder’s 2015 visit to Easter Island and its monumental Moai statues, the “Janis Project” challenges traditional notions of art by bringing it into public spaces worldwide. Each sculpture is uniquely adorned with distinct face paint and accessories, reflecting diverse cultural backgrounds and individual experiences. Constructed from durable materials, these sculptures are designed to withstand various weather conditions, encouraging public interaction.

Prior to their display at Peddler’s Village, the Janis heads were exhibited at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and have traveled across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

The “Art in the Village” event not only highlighted Hyder’s work but also featured reproductions of paintings from the James A. Michener Art Museum and demonstrations by local artists, enriching the cultural tapestry of Peddler’s Village.
